A Flea Market of Sorts.......

I mentioned a couple of times in other posts, that my mother in law fell back in June and broke her hip. She was unable to come home due to the fact that my father in law, who is 9o, is not able to take care of her until she is a little more mobile. It also means that we need to get their house cleaned out somewhat. If you remember, I also mentioned that she is a compulsive hoarder. I'm talkin' she throws away NOTHING and I mean NOTHING. Sooooo, to make a loooooong story short, my hubby and I have been working on getting their house cleaned out enough for her to be able to get around with a walker. This can be frustrating, gross, and exhausting to say the least. But it can also be kind of fun when we find some neat stuff buried in the piles. I found this calender the other day and was gonna sell it at the store but I couldn't bear to part with it. It's from 1935 and from an old store in our town.
We also found this super cool peanut jar. Look at the lid, the handle is the shape of a peanut! Their were two little scoop thingy's in the jar so I just put them in with the peanuts cause I thought it added to it's charm.
I did'nt want to end this post without mentioning that I would never take anything unless my father in law said it was ok. I just don't want anyone out there to think that we are just ransacking their house and taking anything we could get our hands on.
I'm sure I will be showing more goodies that I come across in this process, but I can't wait to show you the pictures we found from 1890 of our house when it was first built. That will come in a later post. Don't get to excited, we live in the "hired hand" house so it wasn't some "grand" farmhouse, but it's still cool to see what it looked like way back then.
On that note, I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to take on a new week!

Glad that you two are there to help them. The calendar you found is rather cool. As are the photographs of the original home. Hope you enjoyed your weekend. I'm loving this weather.

I was just visiting The Maisy Report and you may want to go over there and read my comment. It is "funny." I guess blogger minds sometimes work the same. I am a new blogger and loving it. That is so sweet that you and your hubby are helping out to make the house safer for your mother-in-law's return. Love the peanut jar! Enjoy the day. Dogwood
